Mutiny in Iraq14 February 2008
Back in college I worked as a designer at the school paper (which is why I’m still a designer now, damn you, deterministic fate). Consequently I got to work (meaning stay up til 2am waiting for film separations to print correctly) with one Kelly Kennedy, who did a stint as Editor-in-Chief.
To sum up for those of you not clicking through, she spent many weeks embedded with US troops in Iraq last summer and in the process ended up covering the effective mutiny of an army company after they took some of the heaviest casualties of any unit in the country.
All of which is laid out long-form and in harrowing detail in this Military Times feature.
And if that’s not enough, she broke the Walter Reed hospital scandal before the Washington Post took the credit for it. Actually, that’s how I ended up getting in touch with her again. I saw her talking about the story on Coutdown with Keith Olbermann.
I just wanted everyone to be aware of that story. And also that someone I know is doing rather amazing things.
Personally, I’ve hardly gone outside this week. As you were.
